In 2022, due to a streak of unfortunate and painful events, I found myself stuck in a vicious cycle of wanting but not being able to do what I wanted to do. This included many things and painting was one of them. I felt paralyzed, unable to move, everything felt pointless, and I found myself contemplating whether or not I should quit painting entirely. For the first time in my life my paintings were not constantly on my mind and this was both surprising and extremely scary. Painting was always my go to safety net when I felt the weight of the world on me, but I suddenly felt like I had no idea what I was doing every time I\u2019d pick up a brush. The paint tubes felt like a stranger and my studio was no longer cozy and welcoming. But I needed my safety net so I decided to put it back in place. I wanted to try a different approach, without much thought put in to how I deliver the paint to my panel, or trying to figure out the correct placement of every part of the composition, or go crazy over the \u201cugly stages\u201d of a painting\u2026 I just wanted to paint for painting\u2019s sake. Like I used to many years ago, when I simply reacted to my intuition and let the brushes and paint lead the way. The paintings in this gallery are not what you might call a series, but I gathered them here under the title \u201cLoose\u201d as they all fall in to my recovery period where I was, and possibly still am, trying to rediscover what painting on a hunch means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
